Pope Leo XIV asked the United States that encourages dialogue with Venezuela before any operation against its territory, at a time of tension between both countries due to the military deployment of US President Donald Trump in the Caribbean.
“It is better ways of dialogue, perhaps pressure, even economic pressure, but looking for another way to change, if that is what the United States decides to do,” declared the Peruvian-nationalized American Pope during a press conference on the plane that took him from Beirut to Rome.

“On Venezuela, at the level of the episcopal conference, with the nuncio we are looking for ways to calm the situation for the good of the people, because many times those who suffer these situations are the people, not the authorities,” he noted.
Since September, the United States has carried out several deadly attacks against vessels that are allegedly transporting drugs in the Caribbean and the Pacific, and accuses Nicolás Maduro of leading a drug trafficking cartel.
Caracas denies this and argues that Washington’s goal is to overthrow the Venezuelan president and take control of the country’s oil.
