VATICAN CITY.- The Pope Leo XIV defended his idea a church that listens to all its members“without excluding anyone” above “differences in sex or roles”, to overcome their “tensions” and “ideological contrasts”.
“The supreme rule in the Church is love. No one is called to command, everyone is called to serve; no one should impose their own ideas, everyone must listen to each other; without excluding anyone, we are all called to participate; no one possesses the entire truth, we must all seek it with humility, and together,” he said during the Jubilee mass in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican dedicated to synodal teams.

‘Synodality’ is a process of participation in the church that seeks to decide on important issues and that was institutionalized after the Vatican Council IIin 1965, with the foundation of the Synodan assembly of bishops that meets to bring together positions.
However, the papa Francisco decided to open the Synod for the first time to lay people and women with the right to vote in the deliberations.
The vocation of the church is to “walk together”

Pope Leo XIV twice cited his predecessor to defend that The vocation of the church is “to walk together.”despite the misunderstandings that in its history led to schisms or the latest clashes between reformists and traditionalists within it.
“Today I would like to invite you, in listening to the Spirit, in dialogue, in fraternity and in parrhesia, to help us understand that, in the Church, before any difference of sex or roles, we are called to walk together in search of God, getting rid of clericalism and vainglory,” he claimed.
This attitude, he noted, will alleviate “the tensions that cross the church,” dividing it, he said, “between unity and diversity, tradition and novelty, or authority and participation,” ensuring that “they do not become ideological oppositions and harmful polarizations.”

“On you, on all of us, on the Church spread throughout the world, I invoke the intercession of the Virgin Mary (…) Help her to overcome internal divisions. Intervene when the demon of discord snakes within her. Turn off the sources of factions. Reconcile mutual disputes. Attenuate their rivalries,” he asked.
