Wegmans Food Markets has recalled cheese items throughout the Northeast due to concerns over listeria.
On Tuesday, Wegmans and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed the recall of its Medium Camembert Soft Ripened Cheese and associated products containing it. The Rochester, New York-based supermarket chain initiated the recall after its supplier, Estancia Holdings of Cumming, Georgia, announced one of its own.
Estancia Holdings had previously been notified by its French supplier that three shipments they received may be contaminated with listeria, triggering the domino effect.
The products that have been recalled are as follows:
- Wegmans Medium Camembert Soft Ripened Cheese, 8.8 OZ, UPC: 77890-53515 with best by dates of 7/26/25, 8/12/25, and 8/19/25
- Wegmans Assorted Cheese Flight, 1 LB, UPC: 2-77100-00000-0
- Wegmans Grilling Camembert with Tapenade & Roasted Tomatoes, 10 OZ, UPC: 2-77297-00000-0
- Wegmans Caramel Apple Pecan Topped Brie Cheese, 13 OZ, UPC: 2-77645-00000-3
All of these items were sold between July 1 and August 12 at Wegmans stores in nine states–Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia– and Washington, D.C.
What to know about listeria
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can potentially cause serious or even fatal illnesses in the young and elderly, as well as those with compromised immune systems.
“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” the FDA press release said.
The good news is that as of today, no illnesses have been reported due to consumption of the Wegmans’ products.
If you’re a consumer who has purchased one of the items listed above, Wegmans says you can reach them at 1-855-934-3663 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m. ET daily.
