A popular supplement sold on Amazon and eBay is being recalled after thousands of tablets were contaminated with salmonella.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has updated its warning about 60-capsule packs of Orgenism Eggshell Membrane Capsules.

All batches of the 500mg per serving capsules are affected by the recall – and people have already fallen ill after taking the capsules.

It’s been warned that improper disposal of the product could cause wider public health risks.

A spokesperson for the FSA said: ‘The Salmonella found is resistant to several antibiotics and should not be disposed of in household waste nor flushed down the toilet.

Other recent food recalls over salmonella and allergy fears

Earlier this week, Waitrose recalled its Egg and Spinach Protein Pot over fears they could be contaminated with salmonella.

Last week, Tesco was forced to recall another product over fears they could contain salmonella, while one person has died in Ireland following a listeria outbreak linked to141 different types of microwave meals.

And earlier this month a trendy chocolate bar was recalled because it does not declare it contains peanuts, causing a potentially deadly allergy risk.

Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps, and it’s recommended that anyone who has consumed the product seeks advice from local healthcare professionals.

This could be via their GP or calling NHS 111.
