Prices in Spain rose 3.1% in October, compared to the same month in 2024, according to an estimate of this month’s inflation released today by the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE).
If the estimate is confirmed, year-on-year inflation (price rise compared to the same period of the previous year) in October in Spain increased by a tenth, after having stood at 3% in September.
It will also be the second consecutive month of rising inflation in Spain, after remaining at 2.7% in July and August.
The rise in prices in October was mainly due to the increase in electricity, according to today’s INE estimate.
The institute also mentions increases in air and rail transport.
As for the underlying inflation rate (without energy and fresh food products, traditionally the most volatile in the shopping basket), it stood at 2.5% in October, after being 2.4% in September, according to the same estimate released today.
In the chain evolution (comparison with the previous month), INE estimates that prices in Spain increased by 0.7% in October, after having decreased by 0.3% in September.
