In an interview with DN, the coordinator of the new organization considers that the balance of these two years of activity “is very positive” because the “unit was born at a time of great institutional transformation and managed to establish itself as the operational coordination center for forces and services operating on the borders”. For the person in charge, a “true culture of sharing and interoperability was created, which allows us to act more quickly and effectively”.
Still according to Pedro Moura, the number of refusals of entry into the national territory has increased “around 30% compared to the same period last year”. More specifically: “This year we were asked to check 37,166 work search visas and 31.4% were subject to an unfavorable opinion (11,689). In 2024, 28,828 visa applications of this nature were evaluated, which represents an increase of around 30% in the number of analyzes in 2025 as well.”
But, explains the person responsible, “a Most orders do not present any risk”. That is, “problematic cases are residual and almost always linked to documentary irregularities or suspected criminal activity”. In the same interview, Moura reveals that the “registration” of half a million foreigners has already been verified and that in two years “31 people” who were listed as wanted in the Interpol system were arrested.
Pedro Moura admitted the constraints on the arrival of passengers at Lisbon airport, but put the situation into perspective: “NAt an initial stage, operational constraints arise – we saw this with the queues at Lisbon airport – but these are transitory situations, typical of an implementation of this scale.” Therefore, “it takes some time for border guards to adapt to this new reality. The system will be fully operational in 2026 and will bring clear benefits in terms of security and flow management.”
