The way motorists fuel their vehicles can influence both their expenses and engine performance. Therefore, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) issued a series of tips for Mexicans to optimize their consumption and reduce costs when refueling.
These recommendations are aimed at ensuring greater accuracy in the amount of gasoline paid, as well as promoting practices that promote more efficient engine performance.
How to fill gas efficiently and thriftily?
The Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office recommends requesting fuel in liters and not in amount of moneysince in this way a more precise measurement is obtained and the risk of receiving less gasoline than what is actually required is reduced.
According to Profeco, When ordering by amount, roundings or variations may occur that impact the amount delivered.
Advantages of filling gasoline per liter
Accuracy in quantity: By ordering gasoline by the liter, you ensure that the tank receives the exact amount you are paying for, avoiding discrepancies that may arise when charging by amount due to fluctuations in the price per liter.
Transparency and control: This modality allows drivers to monitor and adjust their consumption habits, facilitating the comparison of prices between different service stations and promoting greater transparency in the charging process.
Reduction of possible manipulations: Charging by liters, especially in multiples of 20, makes it difficult to alter the dispensing pumps, ensuring that the amount of fuel paid for is received.
Another important tip is to fill up with gas during the coolest hours of the day, since lower temperatures reduce fuel evaporation, ensuring more fuel in the tank for the same price.
Finally to facilitate savings, Profeco offers tools such as app “Liter x Liter”which allows users to locate the service stations with the most affordable prices in their area. This application also allows you to report irregularities directly to the institution.
