They invite citizens to participate in the National Conservation Strategy
PROGRESO.— With the purpose of strengthening environmental awareness and promoting the care of the Yucatecan coasts, the Progreso City Council joined the #BeachWithoutPlastic Challengean initiative promoted by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) as part of the National Strategy for Cleaning and Conservation of Beaches and Coasts of Mexico.
The call invites citizens to create a short video in which you show how you contribute to reducing the use of single-use plastics, encourage their rejection in the community and highlight the importance of keeping beaches clean to conserve biodiversity.
Interested parties must post your videos on social networks using the hashtag #BeachWithoutPlastic and label the official accounts of the Undersecretary of Biodiversity and Environmental Restoration.
According to the call, the materials will be evaluated based on three criteria: the use of the hashtag, the video creativity and contentand the number of likes obtained on digital platforms.
The challenge is part of a national strategy that seeks to reduce waste that reaches the sea, especially those derived from everyday consumption such as bottles, bags and disposable containers. In Progreso, the campaign has been well received by young people and environmental groups who have been participating in cleanup days on the coast for months.
“Every action counts to take care of what we love most: our beaches, our lives and our future,” highlighted the call, which also seeks to reinforce the message that environmental protection begins with individual and community changes.
The City Council urged the population to join the challenge and to share their creative ideas to foster a culture of respect for the natural environment. With this type of activities, Progreso reaffirms its commitment to federal and local environmental policies aimed at sustainable development.
