AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)- A big project is kicking off on Broad Street in downtown Augusta.
Construction will be between 8th and 9th streets across from the Augusta Common.
Only the inside lanes on both sides of the street will be closed.
All parking spots on the street will be closed to accommodate realigned travel lanes.
This new stage will have a large fountain, landscaping, shade structures, and James Brown’s music will be there to entertain visitors.
One business owner says this could affect businesses in the area.
“Definitely will affect business because it’ll disrupt the traffic and make it harder for people to find parking places, I’m sure. So I’m not too happy about that. But I guess the plan is progress. And progress can be painful,” said Michael Weldon, owner of Psychotronic Records.
Construction hours are from 8am to 5pm. Project completion is expected to be done in about a year.
