Plans to provide 46 new student beds add to the fast-growing student presence in Bedminster, following the opening of the 800 capacity accommodation ‘Metal Works’ in September of last year.
As well as students, the renovated church plans to house community activities and events.
Previously described as the unofficial Bedminster village hall, the potential revival of this crucial community space on the church’s site has been well-received among locals, many of whom expressed concern for the church’s closure in January 2024, especially given its importance as the home of the Bedminster Food Club, BS3 Repair Café and South Bristol Toy Library.
There are hopes that the new site will reinvigorate what was once a popular hub for the local community.
The original late 19th century building will remain intact but those surrounding will be replaced by a new multi-storey structure.
The 28 new cycle-parking spaces aim to discourage onsite vehicles, excluding those reserved for student and staff parking.
Plans also include space for a launderette and courtyard, accessible to the public.
The application awaits approval from Bristol City Council.
