Rain will return to mainland Portugal from Sunday, the day when maximum temperatures can drop by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, meteorologist Ângela Lourenço told Lusa.
“From today onwards we will gradually see a change in the meteorological situation that will be more significant on Sunday. Today is still a day with high temperatures, very similar to those recorded in previous days”indicated the meteorologist from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
According to Ângela Lourenço, gradually, from Saturday onwards, a frontal system will approach that will bring some meteorological changes with rain, more intense wind and a drop in maximum temperatures.
“Sunday will be a day with rain practically throughout the territory. The frontal system will cross the territory from north to south, although in the regions of Baixo Alentejo and Algarve they may be less frequent”these.
According to the IPMA meteorologist, an increase in wind intensity is also expected, which will sometimes be strong on the coast north of Cabo Carvoeiro and the highlands.
“With this situation, we will see a drop in temperature, especially the maximum, on Sunday. On average, there may be values between 05 and 07 degrees here, and there may be areas of the territory in the northernmost areas with drops of up to 09 degrees”he said, adding that the minimums should not register significant changes.
The rain is expected to continue over the next week, but with variations.
“There will be periods or days when precipitation is less likely and others when it may occur throughout the territory. The next week will be characterized by the occurrence of precipitation in the north and center, but one day or another it will affect the southern region”he indicated.
At the end of next week, temperature values will be around 23/24 degrees and in the northern regions 19/20 degrees.
