Rapid Support Forces target Khartoum Airport with marches news

An informed government source told Al Jazeera that the Rapid Support Forces targeted Khartoum International Airport with drones at dawn today.

Al Jazeera correspondent Osama Sayed Ahmed explained that the authorities detected marches flying in the sky south of Khartoum at dawn on Tuesday, and among the targeted sites was Khartoum International Airport.

An official source was quoted as saying that the ground defenses of the Sudanese army responded to the attack, and losses are being counted, which the source described as limited.

It is noteworthy that the Civil Aviation Authority issued a bulletin to reopen Khartoum International Airport for domestic flights starting tomorrow, Wednesday, after a suspension of 921 days. The airport was subjected to widespread destruction with the outbreak of war in Sudan more than two years ago.

On March 27, the Sudanese army announced that its forces were able to clear the last pockets of the Rapid Support Forces in Khartoum Governorate, after succeeding a day earlier in regaining control of Khartoum Airport, security and military headquarters, and several neighborhoods east and south of the capital, for the first time since the outbreak of war in April 2023.

On the other hand, a military source told Al Jazeera that the support forces targeted the city of El Obeid, North Kordofan, central Sudan.

The source indicated that a march targeted sites inhabited by civilians, and confirmed that the support forces have been targeting citizens with marches throughout the past period.

On the other hand, a Sudanese military source told Al Jazeera that the Sudanese army targeted positions of the Rapid Support Forces with marches in the city of Kabkabiya, located about 150 kilometers west of the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state.

Local sources reported that the bombing targeted ammunition stores and the Kabkabiya Police Headquarters building.

Since the outbreak of war between the army and support forces on April 15, 2023, about 20,000 people have been killed and 15 million displaced and refugees have been displaced, according to international and local reports.

The city of El Fasher is a major center for humanitarian operations in the five states of Darfur, and since May 10, 2024, it has been subject to a siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces, amid international warnings of catastrophic repercussions on civilians.
