Since the hit series Reacher officially debuted in February 2022, Alan Ritchson has quickly become a household name. While he’s taken on several movie roles, including upcoming films Motor City and War Machine, there’s one role that he’s been linked to in which the rumors and swirling buzz can’t seem to slow down—Batman.
The rumors that Ritchson could potentially become the future face (or voice) of the popular superhero only intensified after James Gunn became co-CEO of DC Studios. Gunn has delivered back-to-back hits to kick off his DCU reboot, with Superman becoming a box office success and the HBO Max series Peacemaker earning rave reviews to start its second season.
Alan Ritchson Candidly Addresses the ‘Batman’ Rumors
While fans were finally given an update on the potential for Ritchson to play The Dark Knight in Gunn’s new DCU, there may be some disappointed reactions to the Reacher star’s comments on the topic.
During a recent interview with Variety, Ritchson spoke about several topics, and while he admitted to being a big fan of Gunn, he also revealed that he’s spoken with the director/CEO. But while Ritchson doesn’t think a future as Batman is likely, he did offer some reason for optimism about a possible leap into the superhero world.
“Well, it’s not rumor that James Gunn is a fan. He said it himself. And am I a fan of James Gunn? Absolutely,” Ritchson said. “I don’t want to mislead people. Words have been exchanged about Batman. But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”
So while the Ritchson-as-Batman rumors may need to cool off slightly, there appears to be plenty of room for speculation and playing the “what if” game about Ritchson taking on the role of another DC superhero in the future.
The question on that subject becomes, what could Ritchson’s future in DC look like, and what potential role would make the most sense? That topic alone should create plenty of room for debate amongst fans, but it’s unlikely we’ll get any sort of concrete answer in the immediate future, unfortunately.
