Red Dead Redemption 3 is my most anticipated game of all time – Reader’s Feature

The release of GTA 6 is particularly exciting for one reader, who can’t wait for the game that Rockstar will inevitably make after that…

I know, I know. Rockstar hasn’t announced Red Dead Redemption 3 yet. But there’s about as much chance of them not making it as there is of a new Call Of Duty not being out next year. They’ve already said that future games should be quicker to make too, because of all the work they’ve done on GTA 6, so it might not even be that long till it arrives, relatively speaking.

As long as we can all accept it’s an inevitability I think we can also all agree that it’s going to have the best graphics ever, because clearly it is. Red Dead Redemption 2 is still one of the best-looking games ever and it’s last generation, so imagine how good a sequel built on the GTA 6 engine is going to be!

I could stop there in terms of explaining my hype and I think you’d probably understand me, but I’ll also admit that I’m not the biggest GTA fan there is. I like it but I prefer the more serious tone of Red Dead. Not that it’s usually really heavy or anything but it’s not jokes all the time and it’s not meant to be a satire.

What I would like to see in a new game is a much large open world but also the ability to set up camps and whole towns wherever you want. I’m not sure what sort of time period that would have to be, I think it’d have to be before any of the existing games, but at a period in US history where people are still setting up town and things are… wild… In the west.

Maybe the gold rush, which Wikipedia tells me was 1848 to 1855, so about 45 years before Red Dead Redemption 2. I’m not sure how old Arthur was meant to be but it might be a bit of a stretch to have you playing him as a young man, but I think that would be a good idea and an obvious way to keep a connection with the older games.

I think it’d be neat to have every game go back in time, which is the opposite you’d usually expect, since Red Dead Redemption 1 is set further in the future than any of them.

I’d also like to see missions be a bit more sandbox style. Being told exactly what to do all the time did get a bit old by the end of Red Dead Redemption 2 and while I know why they do it – to have more cinematic objectives – I do feel there’s a way to move the needle a bit more towards more freedom.

Personally, I’d also like the game to have a bit more of a survival type gameplay. I know not everyone would like that, so you could just make it an option, but having to hunt and survive and keep yourself warm should be more important I feel, rather than just basically a save point.

I’d also like to be able to create my own character this time, or at least pick between a bunch of presets, maybe as a nod to Red Dead Revolver. Red Dead Redemption 2 did everything so perfectly I feel you’ve got to experiment a bit just to have a different experience, but I honestly don’t really care what they add as long as it’s a good game.

The launch of GTA 6 will be a great day but for me it’ll be more so because we’ll be that much closer to a new Red Dead Redemption.
