Reeva’s mom ‘doesn’t know her name’ after stroke

Reeva Steenkamp’s mother, June Steenkamp, is showing signs of physical progress after her stroke earlier this month. However, her loved ones reveal that her memory and speech have been drastically impaired.

The Port Elizabeth woman is the mother of the model who was murdered by Oscar Pistorius in 2013.

Her health setback comes amid the second anniversary of her husband, Barry’s, death. According to loved ones, Barry “died of a broken heart” after his daughter’s gruesome murder.

HEALTH UPDATE: REEVA’S MOM JUNE STEENKAMP

On it’s Facebook page, the Reeva Rebecca Steenkamp Foundation – an anti-GBV charity formed in the late model’s name – shared an update about her mother, June.

The post read: “It is with great relief and gratitude that we inform you that June has been transferred to a rehabilitation centre. We are elated to report that June is doing very well physically, in all respects.”

However, the loved ones added, “June still doesn’t know her name and requires substantial speech therapy, but we celebrate that she is able to say a few words”

CONCERN SHE MAY ‘FORGET’ DAUGHTER

Speaking to MailOnline, Reeva Steenkamp’s family attorney Tania Koen stated that June had shown signs of memory loss.

She said: “’It’s as if she’s gone back to the person she was before Reeva died.

“’She was always a warm and loving person, but now she smiles in a way she hasn’t smiled for so many years.”

A “family friend” also shared their concerns that June could forget all recollections of Reeva.

They told the publication: “It’s heartbreaking to think that she might not be able to remember what happened to Reeva”.
