June Steenkamp, the mother of the late Reeva Steenkamp – who was murdered by Oscar Pistorius – has turned a corner in her recovery from a degenerating health condition.
Her health setback came amid the second anniversary of her husband, Barry’s, death. According to loved ones, Barry – Reeva’s dad- “died of a broken heart” after her gruesome murder.
In 2013, Pistorius shot and killed Reeva after reportedly mistaking her for a home intruder. He was released on parole in 2024 after serving half of his murder sentence.
REEVA STEENKAMP FOUNDATION SHARES UPDATE ON JUNE
On its Facebook page, the Reeva Steenkamp Foundation shared a positive update about June Steenkamp’s recovery.
June initially suffered a stroke last year, and was later diagnosed with Wernicke’s Aphasia, a degenerative brain condition that affects her memory and speech.
The post featured an image of the woman sitting on a sofa alongside her cat. It read: “June is physically capable. However, she requires guidance and 24/7 care. Encouragingly, she is able to articulate a few meaningful phrases, including ‘thank you’, ‘this is beautiful’, ‘I love it’, ‘I love you’, and ‘hello’.
It continued: “A significant milestone was achieved this week when June referred to herself by name, a moment that has filled us with hope, excitement, and extreme joy 😇.
“We continue to celebrate these small victories, remaining optimistic about the potential for further recovery of her speech and language function.
The Reeva Steenkamp Foundation – formed by June in 2015 to aid victims of gender-based violence – revealed that the latter was “thriving in a loving environment, surrounded by caring individuals who bring her peace, happiness, and contentment”.
It added: “We are grateful for these positive signs and appreciate your support and prayers for continued progress and healing.”

WHERE IS OSCAR PISTORIUS?
Meanwhile, Oscar Pistorius is celebrating his second anniversary of freedom after he was granted parole in 2024. The former Paralympian served half of his sentence for the 2013 murder of Reeva Steenkamp.
Pistorius is believed to be passing his time by volunteering at a local church. The 39-year-old participated in a triathlon last year, marking his first public appearance since his parole release.
He is believed to be dating blonde bombshell Rita Greyling, with whom he is hoping to “settle down with.
