O “Person Award” is an initiative of Jornal EXPRESSO and CAIXA GERAL DE DEPÓSITOS, whose name is inspired by the name of the Portuguese with the greatest cultural influence in the 20th century, Fernando Pessoa, and which aims to recognize the activity of Portuguese people with a significant role in the cultural and scientific life of the country.
Against the current of an old national tradition, according to which the projection of some works of the greatest importance was only truly achieved after the death of their authors – and this was, precisely, the case of Fernando Pessoa –, the “Person Award” aims to represent a new attitude, a new gesture, in the contemporary recognition of cultural and scientific interventions produced by Portuguese people.
O “Person Award” will be granted, annually, to the person of Portuguese nationality who during this period and following a previous activity has been the protagonist of a particularly relevant and innovative intervention in the artistic, literary or scientific life of the country.
1. Any institution or citizen can send proposals for the Prize until November 19, 2025 (date of receipt).
3. It is mandatory to send a summarized CV of the candidate.
4. Application proposals may be accompanied by documentation considered useful by the proponents. This documentation must be sent until November 19, 2025 (date of receipt):
– by mail: Jornal EXPRESSO – “Prémio Pessoa”, Impresa Building, Rua Calvet de Magalhães, 242 – 2770-022 Paço de Arcos.

1. The Prize will be awarded by a Jury, whose President and Vice-President will be respectively appointed by Jornal EXPRESSO and CAIXA GENERAL DE DEPÓSITOS, with the remaining members invited annually by Jornal EXPRESSO.
2. Jornal EXPRESSO will also designate the Secretary of the Jury.
3. The President is responsible for directing the Jury meetings and the Secretary is responsible for writing the minutes of the sessions.
4. In the event of a tie, the President will have the deciding vote.
The Jury has full freedom to choose one of the proposed candidates or award the prize to someone else. Each member of the Jury may propose, during the sessions, the candidate or candidates who, in their opinion, deserve the Prize.
Each “Person Award” will be awarded to the person who reaches the majority of votes cast by the members of the Jury.
1. The Prize is, in principle, indivisible. However, in exceptional cases, in which, during successive votes, a balance is maintained between two candidacies, the Jury may decide that it be shared.
2. The Prize cannot be awarded posthumously.
O “Person 2025 Award” will consist of a diploma and a cash grant worth 70.000 euros.
