It’s that time of the week again. You drag your wash bag down three flights of stairs and across a lawn that might as well be the size of two football pitches, only to find every machine in the common room taken and your Circuit Laundry card out of credit (not that your knock-off Ariel pods were ever going to wash the squadka stain out of your top anyway).
Or maybe you’ve found yourself in luck, like the Lancaster student last year who went viral on TikTok for finding a free Circuit Laundry hack.
But unless you’ve cracked the code too, you’re probably spending a pretty considerable amount on wash and drying costs in first year halls. For all those curious, we’ve pulled together a comprehensive list of how much it costs to do laundry at each Russell Group uni. Suddenly, I wish I’d gone to Cambridge.
24. University of Cambridge – free
23. Newcastle University – £2.60
22. University of Nottingham – £3
21. Imperial College London – £4
=20. University of Liverpool – £4
=20. University of Birmingham – £4
=20. Durham University – £4
=20. University of Manchester – £4
16. Cardiff University – £4.50
15. University of Leeds – £4.60
=14. University of Glasgow – £4.70
=14. University of Exeter – £4.70
12. University of Sheffield – £4.80
11. University of York – £4.90
10. London School of Economics and Political Science – £4.75
=9. University College London – £5
=9. University of Edinburgh – £5
=9. King’s College London – £5
=9. University of Southampton – £5
5. Queen’s University Belfast – £5.10
4. Queen Mary University of London – £5.20
3. University of Oxford – £5.30
2. University of Warwick – £5.50
1. University of Bristol – £5.80
So Bristol is officially the most expensive Russell Group uni to do laundry at, which is kind of unexpected.
