Revealed: These 10 UK unis rely the most on fees from international students

UK universities are officially in their financial crisis eras. Unis are cutting courses and sacking staff left, right and centre. A big reason behind this is that UK unis make a lot more money from international students than they do from UK students, and numbers of international students are dropping.

Unis do have other ways to make money. Some unis get research grants, and have money tied up in investments. One Cambridge college is extra loaded because it owns the O2. Some unis are way more dependent on dees from international students than others.

The Telegraph analysed a load of data from the Higher Educations Statistics Agency (HESA) to figure out which UK unis are the most dependent on fees from international students.

Four out of the 10 unis on this list are in Scotland. This makes sense, since Scottish students don’t have to pay tuition fees for unis in Scotland.

So, here are the 10 UK unis which are the most dependent on fees from international students. The percentage is the proportion of the uni’s overall income that it gets from fees from international students. The data refers to the 2023/2024 academic year.
