To mark 50 years of the weekly Expresso, Francisco Pinto Balsemão returned to the format he loved most, the interview. Throughout 2022, he spoke every week with figures who shaped the political, cultural, scientific and social life of Portugal and Portuguese-speaking countries.
Founder of Expresso, SIC, several cable channels and associated digital platforms, Balsemão has always remained attentive to media developments.
At 84 years old, he made his debut in the world of podcasts under the motto Leave the World Bettera project that crossed current affairs and memory, reflection and thinking for the future.
Among the guests were personalities such as Durão Barroso, Mariza, António Damásio and Leonor Beleza. The interviews, conducted by those who closely followed half a century of Portuguese history, were marked by direct questions and a critical look at the country and the world.
The podcast was a success and had more than 1.3 million downloads. In addition to attracting new audiences, it contributed to consolidating the podcast as a relevant format in the Portuguese media ecosystem, previously seen with some skepticism as a business model.
