RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – Richmond County Sheriff Eugene “Gino” Brantley held a press conference on Wednesday in regards to the Augusta Mall shooting that happened on Tuesday.
In one portion of the press conference, Sheriff Brantley spoke about what led up to the shooting, and he says that the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is still looking into whether the shooting is tied to gang violence.
One of the main questions that was asked was why the 16-year-old suspect was out of school at the time of the shooting, and Sheriff Brantley answered saying:
“I hadn’t looked at whether he was suspended or whether he was just out of school at this time or whether he may attend alternative school or something like. I have no no idea. Or maybe even if he’s home school. So some of these questions are questions for the parents of these juveniles and these kids who were involved. I wish, you know, as a society, our parents would get more involved in in the rearing of their kids and making sure that they know at least where they are, who they’re with.”
