EastEnders actress Rita Simons recently caught up with friend and former co-star Samantha Womack, prompting them to reflect on their time as soap sisters Roxy and Ronnie Mitchell.

Rita and Samantha left the BBC One show in 2017. Their characters Roxy and Ronnie both died on New Year’s Day.

Roxy suffered a heart attack from a drug overdose in a swimming pool, promoting Ronnie to jump in to try and rescue her. Ronnie got caught and weighed down by her wedding dress, and drowned as well.

The death of these two siblings left audience members distraught. Even though it’s been 8 years since Ronnie and Roxy’s final scenes, fans still discuss the heartbreaking moment, and often argue that they should be brought back from the dead.

Because if Cindy Beale can do it, surely these two can as well?!

Rita, who is 48, shared a screenshot of her video call with Samantha on her Instagram this week. Both currently in the middle of Panto rehearsals, she captioned the post: ‘Tech rehearsals this is what we do on our breaks. @samzjanus We need to play the ugly sisters together?! #r&r#’.

And of course, fans were very much here for Rita’s latest post. In the comments section, the underlying theme of the messages were audience members discussing how much they’d like to see Ronnie and Roxy again.

‘Just come back to EE already the both of you and us viewers will just forget how yous left’, one follower said.

Another wrote in agreement: ‘Still the worst every mistake in the history of mistakes was to kill RnR off. Can’t we have a dallas moment when one of you walk out of the shower and the last 8 years have all been a dream’.

Adding to the fans wanting the sisters to return, despite being killed off, this Instagram user noted: ‘Ok so when is Ron and Rox coming back from the dead?’.

Rita recently departed her second soap role, leaving Hollyoaks behind after two years playing troubled Marie Fielding during its 30th anniversary celebrations and moving to Brookside close alongside her son, Arlo (Dan Hough).

Elsewhere, Samantha previously spoke on her joy that fans are still yearning for Ronnie and Roxy to return.

EastEnders super fan and podcast host, Amy Hart, while interviewing Samantha asked: ‘Is it flattering that everyone is willing to let the plot go to the side? We’ve seen Ronnie in her coffin, but they’re willing to let that go?’

‘I am [flattered]’ Samantha responded.

‘I’m always amazed – I still get stopped probably about eight, nine times a day when I’m here in the UK – not just with someone like grabbing me, you know, just like, ‘Ronnie!’ – there was a guy on the South Bank yesterday, he was on one of those Lime bikes, and he’s screeched to a stop.’

‘He had his earphones in, and he’s like, ‘oh, my God, Ronnie. I can’t believe it, you’re my favourite character ever. Oh man, they’ve got to bring you back, they’ve got to.’

‘And he’s got have been like 19, 20. I was like, ‘Hey, when were you watching it? Because you must have been young!’.
