Our latest obsession is River Island’s Beige Monogram Flip Flop Wedge Sandals, which have a striking resemblance to the Gucci Platform Slide Sandal, but for £513 less.
Beige Monogram Flip Flop Wedge Sandals
River Island’s Flip Flop Wedge Sandals have been made from a soft fabric, which features the brand’s logo on. The chunky wedge heel measures 5cm in height and provides just enough elevation. The slip-on design also boats an open toe, and flip flop/thong-style strap on the upper. Available in UK shoe sizes 2 to 9, and it comes in four colours.
It seems River Island is rather au fait with creating designer-inspired accessories, such as the roll top clutch bag and woven clutch.
On my 2am doomscroll I stumbled across River Island’s Monogram Flip Flop Wedge Sandals, which made me double take because the style, and monogrammed print, looked very similar to Gucci’s platforms.
The River Island design is a slip-on sandal, which resembles a flip flop because of the thong strap on the upper of the foot to separate the big toe from the others.
The style features a chunky platform wedge, which increases at the heel to a maximum elevation of 5cm.
The Monogram Flip Flop Wedge Sandals have been crafted from a durable fabric, which features the brand’s logo in a cream and brown tonal shade. It’s this detail, which when you glance at quickly, could easily be mistaken for the traditional Gucci monogram pattern on some of the designer brands accessories.
Although Gucci’s Platform Slide Sandal features contrasting monogram prints, with a smaller font on the base to counter the larger monogram detail on the upper, the style is similar.
Another difference is that the Gucci platforms do not feature the flip flop style toe, instead it is a slip on slider the whole foot sits in. However, the heel height is similar as these shoes measure 5.5cm in height.
The Gucci Platform Slide Sandals have also been crafted from a canvas fabric, but feature leather lining and a rubber sole.
Let’s not forget the key difference is, of course, the price. Gucci’s design fetches a staggering £545 and comes in Italian shoe sizes 34 to 42, including half sizes. Whereas River Island’s shoes are available in full sizes ranging from UK 2 to 9.
The River Island shoe is also available in four colours, which include all black, leopard print, metallic silver, and, of course, the neutral monogram version.
Whether you pair it with jeans, a midi or mini skirt, maybe even a summer dress, River Island sandals will compliment any look, no matter the occasion.
