The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.
Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) discovered last week that his husband Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) was being released from prison – and would be moving to Emmerdale.
In a normal world, this would’ve been welcomed news for Robert. Newly released from prison himself, Robert could’ve reunited with his partner and spent as much time with him as possible before his terminal illness takes his life.
Unfortunately, this is the Emmerdale village, which means ‘normal’ simply isn’t a thing.
Just before we met Kev, Robert decided to reunite with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). They both decided that life was too short and they should get back together, but this happened when Robert was under the impression he’d never see Kev again.
Moments later, Kev started texting Robert. He then visited the village on day release, told Robert about his terminal illness, and begged him to visit in prison.

What happens in Emmerdale?
In the latest episode, Robert returned home to find Kev already in the house chatting to Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins). Things got off to an awkward start, as Victoria realised that Robert had lied to Kev about what he did when he was on bail earlier this year.
Robert told Kev that he was allowed out of prison to support Victoria, who was having a brain operation.
It meant Vic was forced to go along with Robert’s lie when Kev commented on how well she was looking.
Kev is now living with Charles and Claudette Anderson (Kevin Mathurin and Flo Wilson) as part of an outreach project, which meant he spent the day getting settled into the Dales and chatting to other residents.
One person who wasted no time in introducing herself was local gossip Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler), who smirked when it became apparent Kev had heard all about Aaron, but Aaron hadn’t heard a single thing about him.

At the Anderson household, Kev wondered if he should feel paranoid about Aaron.
Robert briefly mentioned Aaron’s marriage with John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), and told Kev that he didn’t want to confirm their relationship and make his ex jealous.
Robert then headed off, claiming that he was going to work. In reality, he went to Aaron’s flat to spend the evening with him.
The character had the opportunity to tell Aaron about his connection with Kev, but he said there was nothing to worry about.
This of course will prove to be a massive mistake on Robert’s part, as lying to both Aaron and Kev in these moments will lead to trouble later in the week.

After gifting Robert a new watch, Kev kisses him outside the pub. Seconds later, Robert realises Aaron has seen the entire thing.
Given Aaron’s past comments about trusting people after John, this is going to hit him hard. Will the future of Robron get destroyed in this moment?
While we don’t know Kev particularly well, we know he has a very short temper and has just spent years behind bars for armed robbery.
How much danger will Aaron be in if the criminal discovers what Robert has been up to behind his back?
‘It’s going to be explosive’, star Ryan Hawley said.

‘Aaron thinks he and Robert are on the path that they both think they were always intended to be on, all the drama’s behind them, there’s no John any more and they can carry on their lives as they both hope and plan to do.
‘Then out of nowhere there’s this guy who turns up and he’s his old cell mate, and the next thing he sees is them kissing round the back of the Woolpack.
‘He’s a big obstacle and something very different and volatile’, Ryan added.
‘Dangerous not in a calculated way like John was. Unhinged and unpredictable, in a reactionary kind of way. He’s something very different. Also he’s redeemable, you kind of feel sorry for him.
‘You don’t want to break his heart – I don’t think Robert wants to break his heart. Robert doesn’t want to betray Kev, Robert has deep feelings for him that aren’t just of gratitude, they’re very complicated.’
