The Euro-American automotive group Stellantis, which owns the Citröen, Alfa Romeo or Chrysler brands, announced on Tuesday an agreement with the multinationals Nvidia, Uber and Foxconn for the design, manufacture and operation of an autonomous ‘robot taxi’ service.
“This initiative is an important milestone in the advancement of Stellantis’ global ‘robot taxi’ strategy”, reads a statement from the owners of other historic brands in the automotive industry such as Abarth, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram and Vauxhall.
The group had already reached an agreement with the company specializing in autonomous vehicles Pony.ai and in the text those responsible describe as emblematic the understanding now extended to Nvidia (technology multinational), Uber (transport and distribution multinational) and Foxconn (the world’s largest manufacturer of electronic components).
“These efforts will allow the company to play a very significant role in the transition to safe, efficient and sustainable autonomous transport”, conclude those responsible for Stellantis.
This multinational group resulted from the merger of the European PSA (Peugeot, Citroën) with the North American Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), at the beginning of this decade.
