Rommel Pacheco hints at flaws in the Mexican Taekwondo Federation

Given the international failure seen in recent days during the World Taekwondo Championship held in Wuxi, China, in which Mexico ended 14 uninterrupted years with at least one medal won, the director of the National Commission of Physical Culture and Sports, Rommel Pachecohe hinted at apparent flaws in the structure of the federation in charge of managing said sport.

Faced with this crisis to which they are already adding two Olympic cycles without medals for the country, despite being one of the disciplines that received the most support for the Paris 2024 process, with just over 167 million pesos between 2021 and 2023.

Rommel gave as an example the efforts he made in 2025 to restructure disciplines such as aquatic sports, with the creation and international recognition of four new specialized federations, just as happened with the recently formed new one. Mexican Cycling Federation or restructuring in the Mexican Federation of Athletics Associationswhich he pointed out required changes in their organization and today already boast global achievements in several of their branches, with elements such as Osmar Olvera (nailed), Alegna Gonzalez (march) or Yareli Acevedo (cycling).

“As you well know, prior to our arrival some federations had their areas of advantage and we have focused on resolving these types of inconsistencies. Today there are still others with pending tasks to completewhere there is taekwondo or fencing to mention a few, but we see the results in those that we have already worked on,” said Rommel Pacheco.

The Mexican Taekwondo Federation is under the direction of Raymundo González Pinedawho already in the middle of the year faced a scandal due to irregularities in his re-election process as head of said entity.

Although Rommel avoided talking about a change in the organization of such sport in Mexico, prior to his appointment at an event at the Deportivo Azcapotzalco organized by the NBA, the manager was seen accompanied by the three-time Olympic medalist, Maria del Rosario Espinozawho is currently the coach of the Paralympic team in that discipline.
