In his report published by the Russian newspaper “Svabodnaya Prasa”, writer Sergei Ishchenko reviewed developments in North Korea’s military capabilities, including its hypersonic missiles and nuclear submarines, and the threat they represent to the United States and the West.
The writer says that North Korea, which has long been a target of contempt and a comprehensive blockade through the international sanctions system imposed on it by the United Nations, has become the third country in the world after Russia and China to possess a hypersonic missile weapon.

This achievement became a reality after Pyongyang conducted, on October 22, a successful test of a short-range tactical ballistic missile, the Hwasong-11Ma, which represents the latest generation of the KN23 system, and is equipped with a hypersonic glide vehicle.
Impossible to intercept
According to what was confirmed by the developers of the new weapon, the high speed and semi-ballistic descent trajectory with a maximum altitude of about 50 kilometers, along with the ability to perform sharp maneuvers throughout the flight, make it practically impossible to intercept the “Hwasong-11 Ma” strike by any air defense system currently in existence in the world.
According to South Korean sources, even tracking such a missile in the air using the latest radar stations is considered extremely difficult.
Thus, North Korean forces have practically just obtained a weapon capable of destroying the enemy’s most important fixed targets at distances of up to 690 kilometers with high accuracy.
Sergey Ishchenko: The high speed of this missile, its ability to maneuver sharply, etc., make it practically impossible to intercept its strike with any air defense system currently in existence in the world.
You will not rest on your laurels
The writer stated that Pyongyang does not intend to rest on its laurels, as it has begun developing the world’s first medium-range hypersonic strike weapon, from 3,000 to 5,500 kilometers, equipped with a Hwasong 16B hypersonic glide vehicle. The prototype of this system was successfully tested for the first time in April of last year.
According to the writer, this represents an extremely dangerous event for the Americans, as the United States believes that if the North Koreans succeed in adding a little to the declared tactical and technical advantages of the “Hwasong-16B” and teaching this missile a flight range of at least 6 thousand kilometers, then they will be able, from within their country, to target American military and air bases even in Alaska. For the United States, this represents a threat with a strategic dimension.
Solve the puzzle
The most prominent mystery for the West lies in one question: How was North Korea able to achieve an amazing technological leap in a field that even the United States, considered one of its staunchest opponents, could not master? The United States has been struggling for years in vain with a program to develop a ground-based hypersonic missile weapon called long-range hypersonic weapon.
At the conclusion of the report, the author explains this with a clause contained in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Russia and North Korea, which was signed on June 19, 2024 in Pyongyang between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, which states that “the parties shall establish mechanisms to implement joint activities with the aim of strengthening defense capabilities, in the interest of preventing war and ensuring regional and international peace and security.”
