
Nicolas Sarkozy is today becoming the first former French president – in living memory – to be imprisoned.
The former leader will start his sentence for conspiring to fund his election campaign with money from late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
After kissing his wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy goodbye this morning, the 70-year-old has departed for La Santé Prison where he will spend five years in 9-12 square metres cell.
