Mexico is going through important economic changes, Such is the case of allowing the Tax Administration Service (SAT) to temporarily suspend access to streaming platforms in the event of tax non-compliance. Here we tell you the details.
Today, with 335 votes in favor and 122 against, The Chamber of Deputies approved the addition of article 30-B to the Federal Tax Code, which, as we already mentioned, grants full freedom to the SAT to access services such as Netflix, HBO, Prime Video, Disney+, Spotify, Tinder and Duolingo, among others, in real time.
Said article establishes that: “The obligation of digital service providers to allow tax authorities, permanently, online and real-time access to the information in their systems or records, which is related to the operations of the digital services they provide.”
Although it has already been approved, This reform will come into force from April 1, 2026, with the purpose of giving time to the service platforms.

According to the journalist López-Dóriga, The purpose of the SAT is “manage more efficiently the information of taxpayers who carry out operations through these new digital economy models.”
This action will lead to greater tax collection, having a very positive impact in the customs, economic and technological fields. Sectors in which, by the way, Failures have been detected in the payment of taxes such as VAT and ISR.
Additionally, if any company is identified as not being up to date, stricter sanctions could be imposed, including temporarily blocking its services within the country.
This SAT faculty will be approved by the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency, an organization with a budget assigned for 2026 that will be in charge of technologically supervising streaming platforms.
