Saturn – the planet that governs, time, hard work, outcomes and consequences – enters Pisces today, for one final Retrograde in the sign of his current 29.5 year cycle.
This five-month transit, which runs to February 14, 2026, is major news for us all, but particularly for anyone with planets or angles (including a Sun, Moon or Ascendant sign) in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces.
Saturn is rightly revered. In traditional astrology, he is known as the Greater Malefic due to how he can challenge us. Imagine that strict teacher or boss who takes no nonsense, and you’ll get the celestial drift.
You may have also heard of the Saturn Return. This occurs for the first time in our late 20s then again late 50s, and can bring a period of review, big decisions and major life changes. Because the zodiac begins with fiery Aries, Saturn’s return to the final sign, Pisces, can have a similar impact to our personal Saturn Return – only this time, its influence is collective.
Pisces is a Water sign: emotional and highly sensitive. Saturn, by contrast, can be cool, detached, and sometimes bring lower energies or a sense of inhibition or frustration. However, this Retrograde means anything we began 29.5 years ago can now reach a culmination or significant outcome. The same can be true of things initiated around 7.3, 14.6 or 21.9 years ago too, so it’s worth taking a look back at those specific points in your life.
Huge changes can play out, especially if we have worked tirelessly towards a major goal, which may now be within reach. But equally, if we’re unhappy in a job, relationship or home, we may feel compelled to do something about it.
This is because Saturn rules structures, while Pisces – through its modern ruler Neptune – resists boundaries and limitations. Anything lacking solidity or sound foundations will need to flex, grow and learn from Saturn’s wisdom. In some cases, any shaky structures or involvements may be washed away and come to an end.
