A meaty mystery has gripped Bristol residents after hundreds of raw sausages were dumped on a footpath.
The pile of bangers was fly-tipped near a fence in Peel Street Green Space in St Jude’s.
Local residents shared the rogue wieners on social media, and there is even a thread on Reddit where updates are shared.
The sausages have so far survived four nights despite Storm Bram’s strong winds and rain.
Resident Jake Wesley-Worrall told BBC: ‘I imagine the somewhat cold weather has had an effect on the speed of the deterioration, but with this week being quite warm for the season, I would expect the condition of the sausages to wane rapidly.’
Jake said he noticed the piles have seemingly been eaten by wildlife over the past couple of days.
One Reddit user joked: ‘Some lucky fox is hitting the jackpot tonight by the looks of it.’
A Facebook user pointed out that it is more than likely vermin who will be enjoying a sausage feast: ‘I bet the rats think Christmas has come early.’
There has also been a sizzling debate online about what type of sausages they are – Richmond or Tesco?
One Reddit user commented: ‘Someone got mad they were being forced to eat the gluten free sausages at Christmas.’
Someone on Facebook has assumed they are sausages with ‘no meat content’, hence why they have not been entirely feasted upon.
A spokesperson for Bristol City Council said: ‘Clearly the edge of a path is not the place to dispose of food waste. It’s far healthier and much better for the environment to recycle food waste in a food waste caddy.
‘That way households and businesses can do their bit to help the local environment and power Bristol by turning that unwanted food into energy for our city.
‘We encourage residents to report flytipping directly to us by visiting the council’s website.
‘Anything reported can then be investigated and cleared.’
