Fans will get to see the dynamic duo of Regina Hall and Anna Faris return to the Scary Movie reboot, hitting theaters next year.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Hall and Faris commented, “We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon—three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again.)”
Hall and Faris starred in the 2000s slasher parody as Brenda and Cindy, mimicking horror characters like Karla Wilson and Sydney Pescott (Scream), Maureen Evans and Julie James (I Know What You Did Last Summer) in the first installment.
They reprised their characters up until Scary Movie 4, before exiting the franchise.
Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans announced the Scary Movie reboot at CinemaCon in 2024. They will write and produce the movie alongside Rick Alvarez, with director Michael Tiddes attached to the project.
The sixth movie in the franchise is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026, with filming scheduled to begin in October. Miramax is also producing the reboot installment and will be distributed by Paramount.
Keenen Ivory Wayans originally wrote and directed the first two Scary Movies, with Marlon and Shawn Wayans having written and starred in the two films.
The reboot will be Tiddes’ sixth installment in the franchise, having been a long-time collaborator of the Wayans. He originally started as an assistant on The White Chicks.
The Wayans Brothers originally left over compensation disputes and creative control. After Scary Movie 2, they were no longer involved in the franchise, neither behind the scenes or starring as their characters.
Details on Scary Movie 6 are still unknown, with Hall and Faris being the only actors from the original cast to be confirmed to return. Specific plot details are under wraps, with fans likely to expect a horror parody storyline that the franchise is known for.
