Two teams in college football’s premier conference are set to face off in a major matchup this weekend, and a player and coach are already involved in an interesting situation ahead of kickoff.
Before LSU travels to Oxford to take on Ole Miss, a Tigers player was revealed as the boyfriend of Landry Kiffin – Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin’s daughter.
Kiffin – never one to shy away from an opportunity to voice his opinion – reacted to the news, and some fans are expecting fireworks on Saturday because of his response.
Kiffin’s daughter posted a photo of herself with her arm around LSU linebacker Whit Weeks, just days before Weeks and the LSU Tigers face her dad’s team in a big SEC matchup.
Lane Kiffin’s Reaction to the News
“Take the over,” the Ole Miss coach said in response, seemingly a humorous confirmation that the Rebels would try to run up the score on LSU if given the opportunity. It’s a new wrinkle in a game that’s already garnering a lot of attention.

Both teams are currently ranked in the top 15 to begin the new season, and they’re each looking to assert themselves in the SEC. The expanded College Football Playoff field means that one loss no longer ends a team’s season, but wins over tough opponents will always strengthen a team’s resume.
Ole Miss and LSU would each benefit from victories over the other, as games against other top teams await later in the season. The Tigers are currently set to face five more ranked opponents this year after Ole Miss, while the Rebels are scheduled to see teams like Georgia and Oklahoma down the line.
What’s At Stake on the Field Saturday?
Both teams enter Saturday’s big game with undefeated 4-0 records, but they’ve found success in different ways. Kiffin’s reputation as an offensive mastermind is well-earned, and it’s one of the reasons why the Rebels are currently scoring around 45 points per game.
LSU has relied on a stout defense, led by players like Weeks and Harold Perkins Jr. The Tigers are holding their opponents to 9.2 points per game so far this season, making them a top ten defense in all of college football.
They were able to put past early-season mishaps behind them with a strong performance to open the year against Clemson, and they’ll look to move to 5-0 this week against Ole Miss.
Kiffin and his daughter are both active on social media, with Landry often accompanying her father as he prepares for game day throughout the week. She alluded to her relationship with Weeks earlier this year, referring to him as her “boyfriend” in a video that included the linebacker’s younger sister.
We’ll see what happens when Weeks and the Tigers hit the field against Kiffin’s Rebels. Fans can tune into the big SEC matchup on Saturday at 3:30 PM ET on ESPN.
