More than 1,400 women have been treated as part of the timely breast cancer detection program launched by the City Council in October, within the framework of the month of the fight against this disease.
The mobile mammogram that was installed in front of the Municipal Palace served 462 women during October and until November 21.
In addition, 40 women requested an appointment and since the quota was full in October, they were moved to November.
The mobile unit served 142 and 101 women in October and November, respectively, in the morning shift, and 142 and 101 in those months in the afternoon shift.
In the Women’s Medical Care Center (CAMM), 256 women were treated in this same period: 100 in October and 71 in November in the morning shift; and in the evening shift at 60 and 20, respectively.
Women who came to the CAMM for consultation underwent a mammogram plus a breast examination.
421 were received in October and 287 in November, for a total of 708.
The figures combining all the services offered are 842 women served in October and 594 in November, for a total of 1,436 services.
Suspicious cases
Until November 21, since there are studies still being evaluated, five detections were carried out at different stages.
There is one case with the Bi-Rad marker 0, which means that the study is inconclusive and supplementation with ultrasound is needed; and two cases in Bi-Rad 3, with probably benign findings, in which a follow-up mammogram is suggested in 6 months to monitor their stability.
There is one case in Bi-Rad 4, which is a finding suspicious of malignancy and a biopsy is required to rule out or confirm the suspicion; and one case also in Bi-Rad 5, which means that the finding is highly suggestive of malignancy, with a probability of 95% or more, in which a biopsy is required to confirm the diagnosis.
The women with these results were referred to the Women’s Clinic at the O’Horán Hospital.
As mentioned, some mammography studies continue to be performed in the mobile unit that was scheduled since October and is no longer accepting new appointments.— IRIS CEBALLOS ALVARADO

Those who have not undergone the study have the opportunity to go to the Women’s Medical Care Center, where the mammography service is offered all year round with a recovery fee of $100.
Schedules
The CAMM, on 88-A street between 141 and 143 in the Emiliano Zapata Sur I and II neighborhood, offers service from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the morning shift, and in the afternoon shift from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Appointments can be requested by calling 9994-29-66-53.
