Severe thunderstorm warning issued for KwaZulu-Natal – Bundlezy

Severe thunderstorm warning issued for KwaZulu-Natal

The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 1 warning for severe thunderstorms in western KwaZulu-Natal today. Residents in these areas should prepare for sudden heavy rainfall and localised flooding.

Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela cautioned: “These conditions may result in heavy downpours, damaging winds, and even the possibility of hail, especially over the western parts.”

Fire Danger in Western parts of KwaZulu-Natal

Alongside the thunderstorm warning, western parts of the province also face high fire danger conditions due to dry and windy weather. This combination increases risks for both natural and man-made hazards.

“The western areas remain a concern because of the dual threats of fire danger and severe storms,” Thobela said.

Weather Outlook for the Weekend

Eastern KwaZulu-Natal will see less intense conditions, though showers and cloudy spells are expected. As the weekend progresses, scattered rainfall will dominate parts of the province, continuing into Monday. Warm daytime temperatures are likely in coastal areas, balancing the otherwise stormy forecast.

Thobela remarked: “Partly cloudy conditions may dominate in some southern parts, but western areas remain the highest risk zone this weekend.”
