President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that no new taxes are contemplated for taxpayers in 2026, and He specified that only adjustments and updates will be made in some tax items.
During her morning conference at the National Palace, the President explained: “There are no taxes on taxpayers, there are no more taxes. The banks are being charged on what they are not, what they were used to deducting from Fobaproa, from the IPAB. So, the banks are being charged.”

Sheinbaum detailed that these changes include small modifications in certain quotas, such as those related to migration and charging foreign visitors. “There is an update on some taxes that had not existed, such as, for example, immigration fees, it is very little, actually. For foreign visitors, there is also an update, which is actually very little compared to the cost of a plane ticket, for example,” he pointed out.
Likewise, he recalled that the only significant increase will be in the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) applied to soft drinks and sugary drinks, although he clarified that said measure does not have collection purposes.
“What do we guide so that it does not affect your pocket? Instead of buying 30 cans of soda in a month, buy 29. This will help your health and you will not pay more tax,” expressed the President. He added that the objective is to promote healthier habits among the population:
“That’s why we say that it is not tax collection, but rather it is an orientation to the population that with the same resource that you use today to buy sugary drinks, you use that same resource, you just buy less and it will benefit your health.”
Finally, Sheinbaum stressed that the measures announced They do not represent a negative impact for citizens. “In reality there is nothing that affects the population, other than what represents the increase in inflation, which is normally done every year,” he concluded.
