SEP is going to increase coverage to 85% in upper secondary education
The head of the SEP, Mario Delgado, presented the plan to increase coverage in upper secondary education to 85%, with 120 thousand new places and 20 new schools by 2026. The program seeks to eliminate the term “rejected” and expand the educational offer with new careers. Undersecretary Tania Rodríguez highlighted an investment of 5,749 million pesos and the commitment to bring education closer to the communities.
Semar-SRE requests meeting with Johnson after US attack on “drug boats”
The President announced that she will ask the heads of the Navy and Foreign Affairs to meet with the US ambassador, Ronald Johnson, following the US attacks on alleged “drug boats” in international waters. Sheinbaum announced the creation of a high school and a Rosario Castellanos University on the land that was the home of former police chief Arturo “El Negro” Durazo, in Tlalpan. The President highlighted that the property was transferred to the capital government and that the project seeks to expand educational opportunities for young people in the area.
Mexico confirms rescue of survivor after US attack on four boats
President Sheinbaum reported that the Mexican Navy rescued for humanitarian reasons a survivor of a vessel allegedly linked to drug trafficking that was attacked by US forces in international waters. The location of the incident was not specified, but the rescue was carried out in accordance with international treaties.
Mexico calls farmers for dialogue amid blockades over the price of corn
Given the protests and road blockades in several states by producers demanding a minimum price of 7,200 pesos per ton of corn, Sheinbaum assured that his government keeps the dialogue tables open. Although the official offer was 6,050 pesos, the farmers rejected it and warned that they will continue the mobilizations until their demand is achieved. The head of Sader will appear on Thursday to address the issue.
Extradition of Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga will be sought: Sheinbaum
Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that the Federal Government will seek the extradition of Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, detained in Miami by United States immigration authorities. The businessman, husband of Inés Gómez Mont, faces charges in Mexico for money laundering, organized crime, embezzlement and tax fraud. The President indicated that she will wait for information from the FGR about the conditions of her detention and whether Gómez Mont was also arrested.
