Shocking development in case of influencer who poisoned her baby for months to gain fame

The case of the influencer mother who poisoned her baby for clout has now seen an update, but before we get to that, here’s everything we know so far about the horrid case gripping Australia.

Earlier this year, a woman who remained nameless to protect the identity of her child was arrested over accusations of abuse and torture. It was alleged that she used both prescribed and pharmacy medications between August and October 2024 to grow her social media profile, posting footage of her infant in horrible pain for clout. The troubling case had doctors stumped, sparking a series of unnecessary tests and surgeries which were never meant to be conducted. Through a GoFundMe page, the mum also rinsed people of over $60k.

After doctors flagged a potential case of abuse in October 2024, Police in Brisbane conducted an investigation into the alleged activities of the unknown influencer. She was subsequently arrested by Child Protection and Investigation Unit detectives.

“While the child was being subject to immense distress and pain, it is alleged the woman filmed and posted videos of the child,” a police statement read. “It is alleged the content produced exploited the child and was used to entice monetary donations and online followers.”

In January, the mother was charged with five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparation to commit crimes with dangerous things, and one count each of torture, making child exploitation material and fraud.

Detective Inspector Paul Dalton said at the time: “[There are] no words for how repulsive (alleged) offences of this nature are,’ Det Insp Dalton told reporters on Thursday. We are too often faced with the worst offences against children.’

“We will do everything in our power to remove that child from harm’s way and hold any offender to account. There is no excuse for harming a child, especially not a one-year-old infant who is reliant on others for care and survival.’

Later in January, the mother was released on bail as the judge admitted that it could be up to two years before the trial unless she pleaded guilty to the charges. She was prohibited from approaching within 100 metres of the infant, her only contact through audiovisual means.

On Monday, June 23, the woman’s lawyer requested an eight-week adjournment at Brisbane Magistrates Court to better comb through the mountain of evidence provided by the prosecution.

“It is quite a large and complex brief,” he said.

The “quite a voluminous amount of medical documentation” reportedly included DNA testing of a pill collected from a hospital and separate materials relating to an alleged breach of bail. The court’s adjournment is set to continue for eight weeks, ending on August 1 when it’s due for a mention.
