How has Prince Andrew ‘been allowed to live at Royal Lodge as long as he has’, reader questions

Your columnist, Bill Curtis, suggests alternative living arrangements for disgraced royal Prince Andrew over his links to the late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein (Metro, Tue) .

Rather than Andrew’s current home of Royal Lodge in Windsor, Mr Curtis says ‘reasonable’ options might be a two-bed flat in Milton Keynes, a council property in Dudley, a room in a Travelodge or perhaps on the steps outside Buckingham Palace.

Well he certainly shouldn’t get Harry and Meghan’s old place, Frogmore Cottage – and I’d like to know how he’s been allowed to live at Royal Lodge as long as he has. Jim, Birmingham

Reader says ‘Fergie and Andrew are in it together’

Prince Andrew is reportedly ‘willing’ to leave Royal Lodge if his ex-wife – who lives with him in the 30-room mansion – is also rehoused.

So, Sarah Ferguson feels she ‘deserves a royal home to see out her years’? She divorced Andrew in 1996 and should be making her own life.
She’s had better treatment than Princess Diana ever did. Fergie and Andrew are in it together, like all the celebs who were part of Epstein’s filthy life. Franklin, Birmingham

Milton Keynes councillor responds to a Metro article

As a Milton Keynes councillor, I feel compelled to respond to Mr Curtis.

While the city welcomes people from all walks of life, it is unacceptable to reduce our vibrant city to a punchline, or to use such remarks in a way that smears our community.

Got a question about UK politics?

Send in yours and Metro’s Senior Politics Reporter Craig Munro will answer it in an upcoming edition of our weekly politics newsletter. Email alrightgov@metro.co.uk or submit your question here.

Milton Keynes has grown into one of the fastest-growing, most economically dynamic regions in the UK. We balance a thriving economy with the calm of country life. Our central location gives outstanding connectivity – yet our green spaces, pedestrian and cycle-friendly redways and rich, family-friendly neighbourhoods offer genuine wellbeing and quality of life.

Where has Mr Curtis identified ‘a two-bed flat in Milton Keynes with noisy neighbours and a washing machine that stomps across the kitchen when it’s on spin’?

As much I understand the writer’s need to make a point, responsible, thoughtful and truthful journalism must accompany this passion. Councillor Nana Ama Ofori-Atta

Reader says ‘equality’ has become ‘a tool used to one-sidedly criticise white people’

Joyce (MetroTalk, Wed) says Reform MP Sarah Pochin shows who the party ‘really are’ in complaining about the number of black and Asian people in adverts.

I appreciate that Joyce feels offended but what Ms Pochin was trying to point out was that even though we now have a situation where minorities are vastly over-represented (ie whites are massively under-represented), the criticism of whites hasn’t stopped.

This situation in advertising is because companies include more minorities so as not to be accused of being racist but has resulted in the opposite imbalance.

Yes, there are parts of society that are unequal but people must be able to recognise and address imbalances wherever they occur – not just where they adversely affect minorities.

Unless this starts to happen, ‘equality’ becomes a meaningless target and ends up being a tool used to one-sidedly criticise white people.

Another defence for Sarah Pochin…

Would Joyce agree that actress Adjoa Andoh and ex-Scottish first minister Humza Yousaf showed ‘who they really are’ when saying the Royal balcony was ‘terribly white’ during the coronation or that most top positions in Scotland were held by white people? Jon, West Midlands

‘Two thirds of Britons dislike Americanisms used in this country’, says reader

Jo (MetroTalk, Wed) writes about Americanisms in English speech.
A recent survey found two thirds of Britons dislike Americanisms being used in this country. You do the math.
