Sir Elton John has hit back at fans who commented on the state of his oven in a recent festive video he posted on TikTok.
The Rocket Man hitmaker, 78, is busy getting ready for Christmas festivities, and seemingly feels somewhat reluctant to Step Into Christmas this year.
The legendary musician – who lives in a sprawling Berkshire country house with husband David Furnish and two sons, Zachary, 14, and Elijah, 12 – was filmed making his way around his sage green kitchen, and screaming comically on opening each appliance, as doing so made his hit song Step Into Christmas blast out the speakers.
‘If you can’t escape it, you might as well Step Into Christmas! Who’s ready?’ said Sir Elton, who wore a Gucci tracksuit for the video.
Fans in the comments section reckoned Sir Elton’s shocked reaction on opening his appliances was justified when it came to the star’s oven, with many calling it dirty and offering to give it a festive scrub.
‘I just love that Elton John struggles with the inside of his oven too!!’ said iseneff2.0, while MamaNaaf said: ‘Can I just say, the comfort I get seeing that Sir Elton John’s oven is not sparkling clean gives me….makes me feel better about mine!’
‘Elton, your oven needs scrubbing. Gimme your deets and I’ll handle it for you,’ offered This Philogynist as Tyronnysaurus-Rex said: ‘It’s that time of year you clean the oven maybe?’
‘That oven needs some TLC before 25th,’ agreed kishtok, while susanflorian said: ‘lol, the pictured covered fridge and dirty oven shows he lives like us!’
Seeing criticisms cooking in the comments section, a few weeks later Sir Elton has now returned to social media to face his fans.
‘Hello people. It’s Elton John here. A couple of weeks ago I did some videos in this kitchen about how crazy Step Into Christmas was driving me and it got an incredible response, which I was quite startled at,’ he began.
‘But a lot of the response was quite negative about how dirty my oven was, my oven door, my oven window. I can assure you, I don’t have anything dirty in this house. I’ve never had anything dirty. I’m not a dirty person, so to prove I don’t have anything that’s dirty, I’m going to do something to show you.’
Sir Elton then cut to him wearing fabulous pink, fluffy cleaning gloves, before he got to work on the oven window, scrubbing away the grime.
‘Look at this,’ Sir Elton said, as he opened the oven door and Step Into Christmas blasted out, making the musician wince as he sprayed the glass and wiped it clean.
‘Scrub, scrub, scrub, scrub, scrub!’ Sir Elton exclaimed, observing: ‘I’ve got the cleanest oven window in Windsor!’
He then rolled his eyes to the ceiling, and fans loved his pointed response in the comments section.
‘Never thought I’d say this, but: Sir Elton John, will you please show us what your oven cleaning product is? asked AMH1493, while Carrion Winklesworth added: ‘Superb, I didn’t know, the thing I needed most in the world was seeing Sir Elton John in pink fluffy marigolds, cleaning his oven! Made my day, truly!’
It’s good to see Sir Elton so playful, as fans have worried about his health of late after the Your Song hitmaker revealed he’s gone blind in his right eye.
‘It’s been devastating. Because I lost my right eye and my left eye’s not so good, the last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven’t been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything,’ the music icon told Variety in November.
But he added: ‘I’ve had the most incredible life, and there is hope. I’ve just gotta be patient that someday science will help me with this one. Once they help me with this one, I’ll be fine.
‘It’s exactly like the AIDS situation. You mustn’t give up hope, you must be stoic, you must be strong and you must always try and batter the door down to try and improve things.’
While science is emerging Sir Elton said his spirits have been lifted recently by his rockstar pals including Mick Jagger, Pete Townshend, Keith Richards and Sir Paul McCartney, who keep in touch to check on him.
Despite his health issues, Sir Elton still performs with enthusiasm, as he did at the Singapore Grand Prix in October, and at the Los Angeles Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, where he paid tribute to the late Beach Boys star Brian Wilson.
