Who was Anne Frank?
Born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany, as Annelies Marie Frank, she was a Jewish girl who was forced into hiding at age 13 in an attempt to escape Nazi persecution. Together with her parents, sister, and four additional Jewish inhabitants, she was confined to a concealed annex at the back of a building on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. After more than two years in hiding, they were found and deported to concentration camps. Anne’s father, Otto Frank, was the only one of the eight people to survive. After her death, Anne became world famous because of the diary she wrote while in hiding.
