Marius “Vlam” van der Merwe’s widow, Leanne, has shared her heartbreak at having to bury him after his tragic death earlier this month. The man known as “Witness D” in the Madlanga Commission was shot in an assassination over his whistleblower testimony.
The former Ekuruleni Metro Police officer will be laid to rest on Wednesday, 17 December.
MARIUS VAN DER MERWE’S WIFE SHARES HEARTBREAK
In a TikTok video, Marius van der Merwe’s widow, Leanne, grieved her husband’s senseless murder.
The mother-of-two shared: “I cling to our memories, it’s all I can do now. I don’t know how I’m going to get through this, babe. How am I going to live knowing I’ll never hear you say you love me, never get another hug…
She added, “It’s just so unfair.”
In another video, the heartbroken woman shared: “My heart breaks a million times over, no one should have to post this. No wife should have to prepare for her husband’s funeral, pick out his coffin and decide what flowers should be used”.

MURDER INVESTIGATION
Marius van der Merwe was shot and killed outside his Brakpan home on 5 December. This comes weeks after he made a whistleblower testimony as “Witness D” in the Madlanga Commission into alleged police corruption.
Despite no arrests being made, National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola states that investigations into who shot and killed van der Merwe are at an “advanced stage”.
This includes the recovery of an abandoned white Chevrolet bakkie, found abandoned in Alexandra, that matches the description of the vehicle captured on CCTV footage
Three persons of interest have been identified, and one has already been brought in for questioning.

The service will take place at Medley House in Brakpan at 14:00
