Social Media’s No. 1 Men’s Fashion Expert Just Reacted to Travis Kelce’s Pregame Outfit

Travis Kelce presumably adheres to the adage “look good, play good” but one prominent men’s fashion writer and social media commenter didn’t approve of Kelce’s pregame look Sunday.

Kelce showed up for this afternoon’s Super Bowl rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles rocking an atypical suit. Instead of pants, he had the form-fitting shorts look going.

“Suit and tie Trav,” the Chiefs captioned their social media post of Kelce’s getup.

Derek Guy, who runs the Die, Workwear blog and operates the @dieworkwear X/Twitter account which has more than one million followers, noticed Kelce’s appearance and shared his thoughts.

They were less than flattering.

Guy not a fan of Kelce’s suit game

Guy, who has gone viral several times over the last few years as the “Menswear Guy” on X/Twitter, shared a compilation of pictures of LeBron James wearing a similar suit, Kelce sitting with fiancée Taylor Swift at a game and Kelce’s outfit today.

“Too many athletes in ugly MTM (made-to-measure) suits or obviously got dressed by a stylist,” Guy wrote. “Need people to do it like Arthur Ashe. Never looked like he was in a costume. Everything fit well. Also didn’t look like an ambulant mannequin in designer clothes.”

Who is Derek Guy?

The “Menswear Guy” is the editor of “Put This On,” a blog about “dressing like a grownup.” He’s also become a surprisingly well-known social media personality in recent years.

As it turns out, he’s pretty consistently against overly fitting clothes at the moment, an outlook he detailed in the post “Skinny Fits Are Over. Here’s How to Loosen Up” on Amy Odell’s Substack back in March.

“When you’re just starting to loosen up, it can take time to appreciate the difference between fit and silhouette,” Guy wrote. “Fit should be narrowly defined — your suit jacket’s collar should sit cleanly against your neck, trousers should drape smoothly, and buttons should fasten without strain. Silhouette, on the other hand, is about the overall shape of your outfit when stripped of details. Not everything has to look like it was put on with a vacuum sealer for it to technically “fit.” By gradually incorporating roomier pieces into your wardrobe, you’ll find a balance that feels right to you.”

All of that provides some context as to why he hated what Kelce had on so much.

How is Kelce playing today?

Well, the “looking good” part of the equation may be up for debate, but the 35-year-old Kelce is certainly playing pretty well so far this afternoon.

He has two receptions for 34 yards, including a clutch conversion on third down to keep a drive alive, leading to a Patrick Mahomes rushing touchdown.

The Chiefs lead the Eagles 10-7 on FOX.
