Southwest Airlines Just Officially Launched A New Perk for Rewards Members

As of Friday, Southwest Airlines is now offering free WiFi for all of its Rapid Rewards members.

For one week between Aug. 8-14, Southwest tested free WiFi for members of its Rapid Rewards loyalty program. In early September, the airline announced that it would be implementing free WiFi permanently in October through a partnership with T-Mobile.

Southwest confirmed today as the official start date in an Instagram post earlier.

“Rapid Rewards Members rejoice! Free WiFi is available onboard now thanks to @tmobile,” the caption for the post reads.

How it works

Southwest’s free WiFi through T-Mobile is now available for Rapid Rewards customers on all flights, regardless of what wireless provider a passenger has.

“We are focused on making sure our Customers have a great experience from the time they book a flight to the time they reach their destination,” said Tony Roach, Southwest’s chief customer and brand officer said when the new program was announced on Sept. 4. “We’re pleased to partner with T-Mobile to bring free WiFi to all Rapid Rewards Members. This is part of our ongoing commitment to elevate the cabin experience, with free WiFi being just one of the many enhancements Customers will see in the months ahead.”

Southwest is now the largest airline to offer free WiFi on all flights this year. You can access the company’s Rapid Rewards right here.

A new era for Southwest

2025 has been a year of changes for Southwest. In addition to instituting free WiFi service for premium reward members, the budget airline has also executed the following tweaks:

  • Ending its popular “Bags Fly Free” and open seating policies
  • Expanding its international flight offerings
  • Tapping Peet’s Coffee as its official in-flight coffee partner
  • Transitioning from its usual point-to-point flight model to the more traditional hub-and-spoke arrangement

Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan also recently revealed that the airline intends to fly out of  Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport at some point in the future.

Currently, Southwest is only accessible at Dallas Love Field public airport.
