Southwest Airlines just dropped an easy way to earn a two-month companion pass, but there’s a catch.
Rapid Rewards members can register online for this promotion, which runs through August 25. Members only need to book one round-trip ticket, or two one-way flights, to qualify. Travel must be completed by November 15 in order to bring a friend for free on all travels between January 6 and March 6, 2026.
While Rapid Rewards members may purchase their qualifying tickets either using cash or Rapid Rewards Cash + Points, Basic Economy flights do not count towards the companion pass offer.
Southwest’s Companion Pass program allows travelers to bring a friend or loved one for free during designated periods. Pass holders are allowed to change their designated guest up to three times.
“We love offering Companion Pass because it allows Customers — new or long-time Rapid Rewards Members — access to the many benefits of our award-winning loyalty program,” Southwest told The Points Guy.
Southwest Companion Pass holders will need to adjust to the airline’s new assigned-seating policy beginning January 27, 2026.
The airline — which currently allows passengers to select a seat up on boarding in their long-standing open-seating policy — previously announced the major change.
“For your comfort, we’re introducing seat options that allow you to choose the experience you prefer,” Southwest revealed. “This includes options to select where you want to sit and upgrade to an Extra Legroom seat, giving you more choices when you travel with us.
