What until recently seemed reserved for astronauts, can now be seen by anyone on the planet. It is about Space Livea new channel that transmits continuous images of the Earth 24 hours a day, with 4K quality and direct views from the International Space Station (ISS).
The project offers an immersive experience without a narrator: only the image of the planet and the ambient sound of space. According to The Guardianthe channel was created to offer a continuous and relaxing look at the world, a “hypnotic and deeply human” experience.
A new window to the planet from space
According to The Guardian, Space Live streams from the British streaming service ITVXusing cameras installed on the ISS. Ultra high definition images show three perspectives: he earth horizonwhere sunrises and storms can be seen, a direct view towards the surface of the planet and another that points to docking port of the station.
Each image is accompanied by a digital tracker which indicates the exact position of the space station in real time, in addition to a module meteorological and geographical data generated through artificial intelligence. According to the portal, this integration turns the transmission into both a visual and informative resource.
The same media highlighted that the channel is inspired by the “panoramic effect” that astronauts experience when observing Earth from space.
Technology behind the project
A fundamental part of the transmission comes from the technology of Sena British company specializing in spatial content. According to its official portal (about.sen.com)the system uses 4K cameras located on the platform Bartolomeo of the Columbus moduleinstalled in the International Space Station.

Sen had previously developed the project SpaceTV-1a space livestream system that allows recording and broadcasting images of the Earth, the Moon and future space missions. With Space Livethis infrastructure is now put at the service of the public, combining technology, visual art and scientific dissemination in a single signal.
