‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Gets an Assist From Jackie Chan

Tom Holland’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has just scored a new mentor: Jackie Chan. The martial arts legend has not only stopped by the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the stunts in the new Marvel movie will have a very Jackie Chan-esque feeling. And, this isn’t the first time Chan’s unique style has been combined with the MCU.

The Jackie Chan Stunt Team is working on Brand New Day

“My Jackie Chan Stunt Team was busy filming Spider-Man, and I was the action director for the Jackie Chan Stunt Team,” Chan told HK01 in Hong Kong, which was later translated and reported by EW. “”I went to watch their rehearsals, and the director [Destin Daniel Cretton] was so excited when he saw me.”

Currently, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is filming in and around the U.K. Previously, filming locations have included Glasgow and Trongate, which are thought to be stand-ins for this film’s version of New York City. But, clearly, the fight scenes in this next Spider-Man movie will be on an entirely different level. But has Marvel ever gone this hard before?

The Jackie Chan Stunt Team also worked on Shang-Chi

Although Jackie Chan’s stunt team has worked on countless films, the only other Marvel movie before now was 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. While the current Spider-Man movies are technically part of the MCU, the movies are produced by Sony, unlike the Marvel Studios production of Shang-Chi. So, in a sense, Chan’s involvement with Spider-Man is a new development. Certainly, it’s the first time Jackie Chan has gotten involved with Spider-Man!

The plot for Brand New Day is under wraps, but most experts expect this Spidey flick to be a standalone action-adventure story, while Avengers: Doomsday will pick up the larger story of the MCU.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
