Kwagga Smith will start at eighth-man in the Springboks’ second Rugby Championship Test against the Wallabies in Cape Town on Saturday, following the withdrawal of Jean-Luc du Preez due to illness.
Du Preez, who would have made his first Bok start in seven years, fell ill earlier today and has not recovered in time to play, prompting Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus to draft Smith straight into the starting line-up.
The Springboks’ hybrid, Andre Esterhuizen, comes onto the bench to provide loose forward cover.
