Tottenham manager Thomas Frank says Bryan Mbeumo ‘deserves’ his £71 million move to Manchester United this summer.

After weeks of negotiations, United have finally agreed a £71m deal with Brentford for Mbeumo.

United have agreed a fee of £65m to be paid up front to Brentford, with a further £6m in add-ons.

Mbeumo was one of Frank’s standout performers at Brentford and finished last season with 20 goals in the Premier League.

Spurs also explored the possibility of signing Mbeumo this summer but the 25-year-old made is clear that United is his preferred destination and he is now due to undergo a medical ahead of his move to Ruben Amorim’s side.

‘I have been with him for five years. I think he deserved the move, no matter where he goes.

‘As a player I wish him all the best when you’ve been with a player for so long.’

Elsewhere, Frank admits he is unsure over the future of Spurs captain Son Heung-min.

‘It’s always tricky, situations like that, if that happens,’ Frank said.

‘Right now I have a player that is fully committed and training well and will play tomorrow. If a player has been at a club a long time, then there will always be a decision for the club to take.

‘Because there is something in it if someone wants to leave at a certain stage … then there can be something there. But the club will always decide in the end.

‘First and foremost, he’s here now. I’m not worried too much about it.

‘Let’s take that five or six weeks down the line. That will probably [be a question] I get the following week, so I’ll practise my answers. Right now, he’s here.’
