Star Golfer Withdraws Before Final Round of BMW Championship

Heading into the final round of the BMW Championship, Robert MacIntyre holds a four-shot lead over Scottie Scheffler, who picked up one shot during the third round as the leaders were paired together.

Scheffler Unhappy With Rules Official

Scheffler, who is seeking his fifth win of the season, wasn’t too pleased with how the round played out after the two were put on the clock. “It’s frustrating,” he told the reporters after the round.

“I didn’t really feel like I did anything to put us behind on time. Bob and I got warned on No. 9, and I felt like we did some pretty good stuff on 9, 10 and 11 and we somehow didn’t gain a single second on pace of play. I’m not really sure how that’s possible.”

“It’s just one of those things where all of a sudden now I’m punished for a rules decision I did not totally agree with,” Scheffler added, “and then I can feel it gusting on 12, I can feel it gusting on 13, and there was nothing I can do about it; you’ve got to get up there and hit the shot. Overall I did what I could to keep us on pace, and hopefully we don’t run into that situation tomorrow.”

As Scheffler and MacIntyre prepare to battle in the final round, one golfer who started the tournament won’t be able to finish it.

Daniel Berger Withdraws After Injury

On Sunday, Aug. 17 the PGA Tour revealed Daniel Berger, who sat at 2-over for the tournament after three rounds, won’t be able to finish the BMW Championship after picking up an injury.

“Daniel Berger WD with an injury ahead of his 10:45 a.m. ET final round at the BMW Championship,” the PGA Tour’s communications department said in a statement on social media as the final round of the tournament teed off.

Berger entered the BMW Championship just outside the top 30 in the FedEx Cup Playoff standings. With the top 30 making it to the Tour Championship, he had a shot to make the final playoff event with a solid round of golf on Sunday.

Instead he’s headed home early after suffering an injury.
